Edersee
Lake Edersee is right on our doorstep, exactly 24 meters from our viewing terrace. So what else could we recommend but to discover and experience this beautiful lake and its surroundings? The possibilities are endless.
Germany's second largest reservoir in figures
Let’s start at the beginning and familiarize you with the most important key data:
Water surface area: 11.8 km². Water content at full capacity: 199.3 million m³. Height of the dam wall: 48 m. This makes the Edersee the second largest reservoir in Germany in terms of surface area and the third largest in terms of volume. The primary purpose of the Eder dam is to provide water for the Weser and the Mittelland Canal.
At the same time, it serves as protection against flooding and for the generation of electrical energy. Situated in the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park and the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park, overlooked by Waldeck Castle, the Edersee and the surrounding region form a large recreational area.
